Harry Ricker
Head Coach
(Men's and Women's Skiing)
Harry Ricker took
over the skiing team coaching position in 2005 on a volunteer basis
and served as the main developer in the Reynolds and Maine Nordic
divisions, in which the Beavers compete.
A Turner
native, Ricker has been involved with competitive skiing in Maine
for most of his life. As a 15-year-old in 1977, Ricker persuaded
Leavitt Area High School administrator John Turner to coach a
fledgling team. By Ricker's senior season, the team had grown from
seven to 37 racers. After graduating from college, Ricker returned
to coach the Hornets with his wife, Nancy, as an assistant coach
until 1984.
Starting in
1998, Ricker -- who also served as an assistant coach at Livermore
Falls High School and a head coach at Tripp Middle School -- helped
build S/CVA program from 92 skiers to more than 150 racers and
continues to work as a coach and trainer. During this time Ricker
served as chairperson of the Maine Alpine Race Association and
currently is the vice president of the organization.
Ricker serves
as general manager and chief financial officer of Ricker Hill
Orchards, a family-owned apple orchard and cranberry farms covering
850 acres in Turner.
