
Dick Meader
Head Coach (Men's Basketball, Baseball)
A coach for
more than 30 years, Dick Meader has been at the helm of the
University Maine at Farmington's men's basketball and baseball programs since 1993.
Prior to coming to Farmington, he served 17 years as the head men's basketball coach at
Thomas College.
A 1968 graduate of Farmington State College (now University of Maine at Farmington), Meader played four
years of basketball and baseball while earning a degree in secondary
education. He went on to earn a Master's degree from the University of
Maine while serving as an assistant basketball coach. He was later
inducted into the UMF Athletics Hall of Fame for his playing and
coaching achievements. He has also seen several of his players
continue move onto coaching careers of through the high school
and college ranks in Maine.
Meader has also co-owned the Pine Tree Basketball Camp, Inc., held
each summer on the Colby College campus. The summer of 2008 marked the
35th year of teaching basketball to boys
throughout the state of Maine.
Meader has coached three All-Americans, three Academic All-Americans and has been named Basketball or Baseball Coach of the Year nine times by his
peers.
He is married to Betty-Jane Meader and they have two sons, Lance and
Daren. Lance and Daren both played basketball for and graduated from UMF.
