
Sara Thurston
Women's Volleyball Head Coach
Sara
Thurston is entering her second season as the University of Maine at Farminton women's volleyball head coach. Thurston had been a volunteer assistant
coach during the two previous seasons, and is excited to continue to
grow the volleyball program at UMF.
Thurston earned her bachelor’s degree in
physical education with a concentration in sports medicine at the
University of Maine. She began her volleyball career at the Division I
level, playing for the first women’s varsity volleyball program at the
University of Maine since 1983. She currently participates in indoor and
outdoor volleyball tournaments and leagues throughout the state of
Maine, and is a member of the Maine State Volleyball Association.
Thurston’s volleyball coaching experiences, beyond
those at Farmington, consist of head volleyball coach at Bucksport High School,
coaching at Nike volleyball camps, and coaching with the Highlanders
Junior Olympic Volleyball program. She has also been an assistant
varsity coach at the highly successful, girls’ soccer, and softball
programs, as well as the boys’ basketball program at George Stevens
Academy, located in Blue Hill, Maine.
Thurston currently lives in Peru, Maine, and
works in the Jay School Department.
