Softball splits to open season
LEWISTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington softball team opened its season by splitting a twinbill against Bates College with the Beavers bouncing back from a 10-0 loss in the first game to earn an 8-5 win in the second contest.
The Beavers (1-1) are scheduled to visit Bowdoin College for a doubleheader Monday. The first pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
Husson was picked as the preseason favorite with seven first-place votes and 63 points. The Beavers followed in second with 51 points, despite not receiving a first-place vote, while Thomas was the recipient of a first-place vote and 50 points. The poll was rounded out by Castleton (40), Green Mountain (27), Lyndon State (27), Maine Maritime (21) and Johnson State (9).
The Beavers are scheduled to open the season on April 5 with a doubleheader at Bates College.
