Barnes honored by NAC
FARMINGTON -- University of Maine at Farmington sophomore catcher/first baseman Mckell Barnes (Durham, ME) was named the North Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week as announced by the conference this afternoon.
Barnes batted .558 (24-43) with 12 runs scored, three doubles, five home runs and 19 RBI in an 8-4 week for the Beavers. Maintaining a .977 slugging percentage during the stretch, the sophomore established this week and continued to build on a program single season home run record (9) and has tied the career mark at 14.
Farmington (14-11) is seeded third in the NAC tournament. The Beavers are scheduled to host No. 6 Johnson State College (9-16) in a first-round game Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Prescott Field.
