Softball drops pair at Husson
BANGOR -- The University of Maine at Farmington softball team dropped its North Atlantic Conference opening doubleheader to Husson University 4-3, 7-0 today.
The Beavers dropped to 1-3 overall (0-2 in the NAC, while the Eagles improved to 5-11 (2-0). Originally scheduled to be played in Farmington, the games were moved to Bangor due to unplayable field conditions with the Beavers remaining as the home team.
In the opener, Caitlin Leborgne singled home Megan Richard in the fifth inning to break a 3-3 tie and lead the Eagles to the 4-3 win.
After Husson scored three times in the second, the Beavers responded in the home hal of the frame with a two-run single by Whitney Page (Sorrento, ME). Mckell Barnes (Durham, ME) played Jess Timmreck (Brunswick, ME) with a sacrifice fly in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3.
Shannon Mitchell (Portsmouth, NH) singled and doubled in the loss, while Casandra Dyer (Freeport, ME) singled twice.
Liz Bergeron (Milford, ME) took the loss, allowing eight hits with seven walks and three strikeouts in the complete game.
Diann Ramsey singled home two runs for Husson with Megan Bradstreet and Richard each singling twice.
Richard went the distance for the win with eight free passes and nine strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Husson rolled to a 7-0 victory in a game shortened due to darkness. The Eagles held a 4-0 command after five innings and tacked on three runs in the fifth before action was called.
Nicole Sargent held the Beavers to six hits with Erin Porter (Bangor, ME) collecting a pair of singles.
Jamie Milton played a pair of runs for Husson with Richard doubling twice.
Timmreck was hit with the loss, allowing 10 hits with a walk and three strikeouts.
