Softball cruises past Fisher
FARMINGTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington softball team defeated Fisher College 10-4, 8-0 in non-conference action today at Prescott Field.
The Beavers upped their record to 8-7 and are scheduled to visit North Atlantic Conference foe Thomas College Wednesday for a doubleheader. First pitch is tabbed for 3 p.m.
In the opener, the Beavers erupted for seven runs in the first inning en route to the 10-4 victory.
Mckell Barnes (Durham, ME) clubbed a two-run home run and Jess Timmreck (Brunswick, ME) slapped a two-run single to help Farmington out to the 7-0 start. Timmreck, Casandra Dyer (Freeport, ME) and Samantha Morency (Lewiston, ME) each had a pair of hits in the win.
Timmreck scattered seven hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in collecting the complete-game win.
Jackie Streeter (Westminster, MA) registered three singles for the Falcons, while Debbie Fuller (Hampton, NH) singled twice and drove in a run.
Brittany Calderon (Rockland, MA) took the loss with two walks and three strikeouts.
In game two, Liz Bergeron (Milford, ME) tossed a one-hitter and the Beavers pushed across four runs in the fifth inning to invoke the Mercy Rule in an 8-0 defeat of the Falcons.
Bergeron struck nine and walked on in the victory.
Timmreck, Emily Coye (Naples, ME) and Erin Porter (Bangor, ME) each had a pair of base hits and an RBI in the victory.
Streeter went down in defeat with five walks and four strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work.
Michelle Oliverio (Everett, MA) picked up a double for the Falcons.
