Five softball players honored by NAC
FARMINGTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington softball team was well-represented on the All-North Atlantic Conference teams announced by the NAC today.
Senior infielder Kelly McDonough (Windham, ME), junior second baseman/pitcher Sarah Defilipp (Brewer, ME), junior centerfielder Lauren Overlock (Belfast, ME) and freshman rightfielder Kasey McPhail (Benton, ME) were each named the All-NAC Second Team, while freshman catcher/first baseman McKell Barnes (Durham, ME) received a NAC Honorable Mention honor.
NAC all-conference selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches. Only statistics in the 20 NAC contests were used in the voting process.
McDonough, one of the tri-captains of this year's squad, batted .475 with six doubles, 11 RBI and six stolen bases.
Defilipp was 8-2 on the mound with six complete games, one shutout and an earned-run average of 1.35 over 53.1 innings. At the plate, she hit . 354 with three doubles and 12 RBI.
Overlock batted .364 with five doubles, three triples, 10 RBI and six stolen bases.
McPhail hit .404 with three doubles and 10 RBI. She also had two sacrifice flies and five sacrifice bunts.
Barnes averaged .360 with 10 doubles, a triple and two home runs. She led the team with 17 RBI.
In 2007, Defilipp and Overlock were All-NAC First Team choices.
The Beavers (22-7) are scheduled to competed in the NAC double-elimination championship round at Husson College this weekend. Farmington is slated to face the host Eagles at 10 a.m. on Friday.
