Softball sweeps pair from Fisher

WATERVILLE -- The University of Maine at Farmington softball team ran its record to 14-2 with a 19-1 and 15-6 sweeping of Fisher College today at Thomas College. The games were played in Waterville due to unplayable conditions at Prescott Field.

The Beavers are scheduled to "host" Thomas College in Waterville for a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Farmington and Thomas are the two remaining teams unbeaten in the NAC.

Jessica Timmreck (Brunswick, ME) notched a pair of victories in the doubleheader and received more than sufficient run support as the Beavers collected 35 hits in the two games.

In the opener, McKell Barnes (Durham, ME) slammed a double, a home run and drove in four runs to help lead a 21-hit attack for the Beavers.

Lauren Overlock (Belfast, ME) chipped in a single, a double with three RBI, while Renee Trafton (Corinth, ME) and Kelly McDonough (Windham, ME) each drove in two runs.

Timmreck struck out four and walked two in a complete game four-hitter.

Sonya Newton singled twice and plated the lone Fisher run. Newton also took the mound loss with four walks and three strikeouts in a complete game.

In the second contest, Barnes singled, doubled and knocked in three runs, while Kasey McPhail (Benton, ME) clubbed a two-run triple and Kerry Kowalczyk (Topsham, ME) had a two-run single in the rout.

Timmreck walked one and struck out three in earning the victory.

Newton again led the Falcons with a pair of singles and three RBI with Michelle Oliverio doubling twice.
