5/15/02Softball All Conference Players AnnouncedFive UMF Softball players were named to the Maine Athletic Conference All-Conference Team. Infielders were Freshman Cindy Ravinski and Senior Heather Marden. Outfielders were juniors Richelle Dube and Andrea Benvenuti. Freshman Jessica Wenckus was named as a pitcher. 5/14/02Softball Knocked Out of NAIA Region X TournamentThe UMF softball team encountered some rain on Thursday which postponed their games to Friday. On Friday they ran into some tough competition from host Georgian Court College and MAC rival St. Joseph's College. Freshman Jessica Wenckus, UMF's go to pitcher for the whole season, threw both games which included holding regional runner up St. Joe's to 4 runs. UMF completes the season with an overall record of 18-16 and a conference record of 9-7. With only one senior graduating and the team entering the Sunrise Conference next spring, the Beavers look poised to rise to the top again. 5/6/02Softball Advances to NAIA Region X TournamentThe UMF Softball team finished in second place in the Region X independent conference tournament which qualified them for the Region X Tournament, one step away from the NAIA National Tournament. UMF secured the bid by defeating Green Mountain College and Thomas College this weekend in the independent tournament. Highlights from the weekend included freshman pitcher Jessica Wenckus earning her 10th and 11th wins and freshman Cindy Ravinski's 4 RBI's in the 4-0 win over Thomas College to secure the regional bid. The regional tournament will be held at Georgian Court College in Lakewood, New Jersey this Thursday and Friday. Tournament plan is as follows: Region X 4/30/02Softball Independent Tournament Bracket 4/29/02Softball Sweeps UMPIThe UMF softball closed out the regular season on a high note completing a four game sweep of UMaine Presque Isle. In Saturday's first game Richelle Dube went 3-3 with an RBI to lead the Beavers. Pitcher Morgan Hann earned the win. In the second game, UMF was able to capitalize on some UMPI errors to gain the 3-2 win. On Sunday, UMF again came away with a close 3-1 first game win behind the hitting of Andrea Benvenuti who went 3-3. In the second game Richelle Dube and Heather Marden each went 2-4 helping freshman pitcher Jessica Wenckus to her 9th win of the season. UMF awaits the pairings for the Region X independent tournament which will take place at the College of Saint Joseph's (Vermont) on May 4th and 5th. More information will be posted as it becomes available. 4/25/02Softball Drops Two to ThomasIn the first game, Cindy Ravinski and Terri Trudell both had RBI singles but it was not enough to take over Thomas College who won the game 8-2. In the second game UMF came from behind to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the 5th inning, however Thomas scored the game winner in the 6th. UMF sprayed 10 hits in the game, including three each by Andrea Benvenuti and Richelle Dube. Freshman pitcher Jessica Wenckus held Thomas to 6 hits while striking out 7 in the loss. The Beavers will close out the regular season this weekend with a road trip to Presque Isle for a 4 game series with UMPI. 4/19/02Softball Drops Two to St. JoesThe UMF Softball team dropped two games to St. Joseph's College yesterday. St. Joseph's takes the 4 game series 3-1. Sam Goyette went 2-3 in the second game while Cindy Ravinski, Richelle Dube, Terry Trudell and Andrea Benvenuti each added singles on the day. Jessica Wenckus and Heather Marden were each credited with losses. The Beavers return to action on Wednesday April 24th when the take on Thomas College in a rescheduled doubleheader in Farmington at 3:00pm. Then UMF will close out the regular season at UMaine Presque Isle on the 27th and 28th. 4/17/02Softball Splits With St. JoesThe UMF softball team struggled with St. Joe's off speed pitching to generate 2 hits in the 2-0 loss in the first game of the doubleheader. In the second game, freshman pitcher Jessica Wenckus held St. Joe's to 5 hits while getting some offensive support to earn her 7th win of the season. Freshman Sam Goyette had a 2 RBI single in the 6th inning to secure the win for the Beavers who improve to 15-8 overall. UMF returns to action today when they host Thomas College at 2pm. 4/15/02Fisher Forfeits Both Games, UMF Softball Gets WinsSoftball Makes it a Sweep of Lyndon StateThe UMF Softball team recorded a four game sweep of visiting Lyndon State yesterday as they earned 8-4 and 11-2 wins. UMF jumped out to a 7-1 lead by the end of the second inning behind Heather Marden and Cindy Ravinski's 2 RBI's each. Melissa LeMar earned the win. In the second game Sophia Stanley's 4 RBI's in the first three innings gave the Beavers a 6-1 lead. UMF closed out the game in the 5th inning with Shea Strout's pinch hit 2 RBI's. Jessica Wenckus had 5 strike outs for her 6th win of the season. UMF is in the middle of a six day stretch of games which began on Saturday and will end on Thursday. Next up for the Beavers is Fisher College today in Farmington at 1pm. 4/13/02Two Softball Players Get Conference RecognitionJessica Wenckus, a freshman from Gardiner was named Maine Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for last weeks performances in which she did not allow any earned runs in 2 wins, which included her first career shutout. Freshman Sam Goyette was named MAC Player of the Week honorable mention for going 5-8 for the week of 4/1/02-4/7/02 and getting the game winning pinch hit against Husson. Softball Gets Two Wins Over Lyndon State, 6-5, 11-5The Beavers found their bats today as they engineered a come from behind victory in the first game of the 4 game weekend series. Sam Goyette went 2 for 4 with a double and a single which drove in the winning run. Morgan Hann came in to relieve Melissa LeMar to earn the win. In the second game, UMF exploded for 11 runs before the 5th inning behind several hits. Jessica Wenckus pitched a complete game to earn the win. UMF improves to 10-7 overall and remains 4-2 in the MAC. The Beavers will face off with Lyndon State again tomorrow for another doubleheader starting at 1pm. 4/11/02Softball Drops Two to USMThe UMF softball team was unable to generate any runs in today's doubleheader with the University of Southern Maine. In the first game the Beavers had the bases loaded 2 times, only to come up short at the plate. UMF will have the day off tomorrow then return to play on Saturday and Sunday when they host Lyndon State College for a weekend series at Prescott Field.= 4/10/02Softball Loses to Colby, 3-7Three hits in the third inning (a double by Richelle Dube, and singles by Heather Marden and Andrea Benvenuti) allowed UMF to tie the game at 3-3. Colby rallied back later in the game to open up a 7-3 lead. UMF used four pitchers in the game, Heather Marden, Melissa LeMar, Morgan Hann and Jessica Wenckus. UMF's record now stands at 8-5 overall and 4-2 in the MAC. The Beavers return to action tomorrow versus the University of Southern Maine here at UMF. Softball Loses Two at Thomas, 1-2, 2-6In yesterdays first game UMF was able to tie the game at 1-1 in the fourth only to see Thomas score the go ahead run in the bottom of the sixth. Melissa LeMar earned the loss for the Beavers. In game two UMF scored a run in each of the first two innings and went into the sixth inning tied at 2 and then gave up 4 runs to close out the game. Richelle Dube, Dawn Robertson and Sophia Stanley each recorded doubles in the game. Jessica Wenckus was credited with 4/8/02Softball Sweeps 4 Games at HussonThe UMF Softball team opened conference play with a sweep of Husson College this weekend. UMF exploded for 43 hits in the 4 games on its way to wins of 12-2, 3-1, 12-2 and 5-0. Extra base hitters for the Beavers were Sam Goyette and Cindy Ravinski with a double and a triple each, Richelle Dube with 2 doubles and Hadley See, Sophia Stanley and Heather Marden each added doubles. Freshman Pitcher Jessica Wenckus went 2-0 on the weekend earning her first career shutout in the 5-0 win. Melissa LeMar also pitched well for the Beavers earning herself two wins also. The Beavers' record improves to 8-2 on the season and 4-0 in the conference. UMF returns to action on Tuesday April 9th when they travel to Thomas College in Waterville for a doubleheader at 3:00pm 4/5/02Softball Drops Two to BowdoinIn the first game UMF was only able to connect for 5 hits to generate one run in the 8-1 loss. Recording hits for the Beavers were Sam Goyette with a double and Richelle Dube, Sophia Stanley, Cindy Ravinski and Jana Dillon each hitting singles. Melissa LeMar pitched 5 innings giving up ony 2 earned runs. In the second game UMF again struggled offensively as they connected on 6 hits in the 5-1 loss. Andrea Benvenuti and Terri Trudell led the way with a 2 for 3 performances. Heather Marden and Cindy Ravinski each added singles. Heather Marden and Jessica Wenckus combined for 4 innings and 3 earned runs on the afternoon. UMF returns to action on Saturday when they open MAC play at Husson at 1pm. 4/4/02Softball Games RescheduledThe Softball games scheduled for this Saturday have been moved to Husson College. Start time remains at 1pm.
