Beaver Social caps athletic, academic year

The third annual BYOP (Bring Your Own Pride) Beaver Social was held Monday night in the North Dining Hall as varsity student-athletes and coaches came together for a final gathering for the 2007-08 athletic and academic school year.

It was a night of celebration and appreciation for everyone’s efforts in developing the whole student-athlete and teaching life skills through sport at Farmington. Special attention was given to recognizing sportsmanship honors and team participation in community service and CHOICES programming throughout the year. Individuals were recognized for their leadership and academic achievements. Well wishes were extended to the graduating seniors.

A highlight of the evening was a poetry reading by sophomore women’s soccer player Ashley Tetreault and senior women’s softball player Katelyn Ross in honor of longtime coach Bob Leib and assistant coach Niki Fulton-Greenlaw. Leib, a 31-year veteran of Farmington athletics, has retired from coaching following this season.

Senior men’s soccer player Brian London and senior field hockey player Nicole Lyons each received the Beaver Pride Award. Voted upon by the student-athletes, the Beaver Pride Award goes to a male and a female student-athlete who embody the spirit of sportsmanship, school spirit and excellence.

The event also served as a community service for the teams as student-athletes were asked to bring canned goods to the event. The number of canned goods brought in by each team dictated service in the buffet-style fare. The canned goods were to be donated to the Care and Share Food Cupboard.

This is the second year the student-athletes attached a community service to the event. Last year, school supplies were brought in and taken by former women's volleyball player Sheanna White to Africa.
