Cross country teams win at St. Joseph's

STANDISH -- The University of Maine at Farmington men's and women's cross country teams both won their respective Runnin' Monks Invitational races at St. Joseph's College on Saturday.

The Beaver men placed four runners in the top 10 en route to the victory. UMF totaled 30 points to win followed by St. Joseph's (46), Lyndon State (82), Lasell (91), UMaine-Presque Isle (112), Emmanuel (141) and UMaine-Machias NS.

Tim Millett (Gorham, ME) led the way for the Beavers by winning in a time of 28:51. Millett surged past St. Joseph's Ryan Prescott (28:52) over the final 200 meters to take first. Prescott had defeated Millett by two minutes, 46 seconds at the University of New England on Sept. 8.

Peter Delano (Rockport, ME) and Kel Cenga (Brewster, MA) came in third and fourth, respectively, with times of 29:54 and 29:56. Chris Durkin (Brunswick, ME) finished in 10th at 31:04 and Matt Cornelius (Duxbury, MA) came in 14th at 31:26. It was the first time Cornelius got into the scoring for the Beavers.

Also competing for UMF were John Zwetsloot (Wells, ME) at 20th, Cam Fecteau (Gorham, ME) at 21st, Philip Jackson (Westbrook, ME) at 30th, Scottt Havu (Buxton, ME) at 35 and Tristan Bates (New Sharon, ME) at 37th.

The Beavers are scheduled to compete at the State of Maine Championships at Pineland Farm in New Gloucester this coming Saturday.
