Croteau Paces Men's XC at NCAA REGIONALS

In his final race as a UMF runner, senior Drew Croteau (Durham, CT) turned in a fine performance. His time of 27:53 on a long course (5.06 miles) converts to a lifetime 8K (4.96 miles) personal record (LPR) of 27:19. In a field of over 300 competitors, the four-time All-Conference runner turned in the fourth-best individual finish since UMF joined the NCAAs. Following Croteau were five rookies who all ran very well. Freshman Peter Delano (Rockport, ME) was second for the team with an LPR of 30:12. Freshman Ren Morse (Wiscassett, ME) had the race of the season, improving his best time by over three minutes (31:22) and while posting the the third-best time on the team. Following him was sophomore Chris Durkin (Brunswick, ME) in a time of 31:34. Filling out the scoring was junior captain Phil Jackson (Westbrook, ME), recording a time of 31:35.   UMF finished 32nd as a team in the 45-team field.

Croteau Captures NAC Cross Country Championship

Drew Croteau (Durham, CT) captured first place at the 2006 North Atlantic Conference Cross Country Championships, hosted by Castleton State.  With heavy rains leaving the course wet and sloppy, the men finished third.  Castleton State captured both team championships.

Croteau finished the 8K course in a time of 30:03.57, distancing himself from runner-up Chris Gatchell of Castleton (30:50.88).  Freshman Pete Delano (Rockport, ME) was the next UMF finisher, taking 11th with a time of 32:28.12, while Chris Durkin (Brunswick, ME) and Phil Jackson (Westbrook, ME) placed 16th and 17th, respectively with times of 34:10.50 and 34:12.06.Men’s Results

UMF Harriers Earn Conference Honors

Several members of the UMF men’s and women’s cross country teams earned All-Conference honors for their performances in the NAC Cross Country Championships this past weekend at Castleton State College.   Drew Croteau (Durham, CT) and Emily Farley (Mt. Desert Island, ME) led the UMF honorees by earning Conference Runner of the Year honors following their individual victories at the conference meet.  Farley, in addition, was named NAC Rookie Runner of the Year.

Croteau also earned First Team All-NAC honors on the men’s side, while freshman Pete Delano (Rockland, ME) was a second team All-NAC selection.  Farley and Kate Dickinson (South Berwick, ME) were named to the All-NAC First Team on the women’s side, while Lyn Plog (Avon, ME), Sam Posey (Portland, ME), Teri Slawek (Peru, ME) and Emily Weston (Rumford, ME) were Second Team All-NAC honorees.

Croteau Earns Second NAC Runner of the Week Award

Senior Drew Croteau ( Durham, CT) has been named North Atlantic Conference Runner of the week for the second time this season. Croteau recorded a lifetime personal record running a 27:23 over the 8K course at the Maine State Meet held at Bowdoin College October 14th. His time was just :30 off the school record. Croteau finished 27th out of 115 harriers amongst stiff competition from Bowdoin, Bates and Colby and Southern Maine.

Men's Cross Country Runs Personal Bests at Maine State Meet

This afternoon, every member of the men's cross country team ran season best times at the Maine State meet, hosted by Bowdoin College. Four runners (Drew Croteau (Durham, CT), Pete Delano (Rockport, ME), Dan Peterson (Milford, MA) and Tristan Bates (New Sharon, ME) logged liftime bests. 

The Beavers were led by Croteau, who was just :30 off the school record, clocking a 27:23 over the five-mile course. Croteau placed 27th out of 115 finishers in a very competitive field. Delano, as a freshman, became Farmington's 13th runner in the history (1998-2006) of the XC program to run subthirty minutes with a time of 29:51. Fellow freshmen Peterson and Bates ran 31:31 and 35:58 respectively. Phil Jackson (Westbrook, ME) ran 30:32 to place third for the team and just :10 behind him in fourth was Chris Durkin (Brunswick, ME). Croteau Leads the Pack In Successful Alumni Race

Briliant sunshine, vibrant colors of fall and a crisp temperature resulted in a picture-perfect setting for the first Annual men's cross country alumni race.  Eleven alumni representing members of each of the nine teams (1998-2005) since the inception of cross country participated, with current senior Drew Croteau (Durham, CT) shattering the course record with a winning time of 17:31. Four alums were also under the old record of 18:36 – 2nd place Nick Scott('05) in 17:33, 3rd, Andrew Sweeney ('05) 17:55, 4th Joe Fitzsimmons('06) 18:06, and 5th Tim Wess('04) 18:33. All four of these alumni are also coaching high school cross country teams in Maine.

Other former runners participating were: Ty Thurlow '09, Luc Roy  '04, Sgt Tenney Noyes '06, Marc Collard '01, Mike Costa '01, Brian Dodd '02 and Al Carpentier '01.  Holly(Chapdelaine)Wess was the only former Women's team member to run. Also attending was Megan Roy '04. The race was followed by a barbeque at Coach Cullenberg's home. Plans are already being made for the women's team to join the celebration of 10 years of XC running at UMaine-Farmington in 2007.  Results

Croteau Earns NAC Weekly Honors

Drew Croteau (Durham, CT), Emily Farley (Mount Desert Island, ME) and Kaeleigh Barker (Chicester, NH) have earned weekly honors from the North Atlantic Conference (NAC), as announced today by the league office.  Croteau was named the Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, Farley earned Women’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this year, and Barker was honored as the Field Hockey Player of the Week.

Croteau, competing at the UMF Invitational, ran a 28:52.82 over the hilly, 4.97-mile course at Mt. Blue HS on Saturday to finish in second place among 49 runners in the highly-competitive field. 

Farley, for the third time in as many competitions, was the top UMF finisher, this time racing to a fifth-place finish at the UMF Invitational.  Farley posted a time of 21:09.04, just :35 behind the top finisher.  Thus far in her collegiate career, she has posted top 10 finishes in all three of her races.

Barker was perfect in goal during a 2-0 week for UMF, spearheading a defense that held a pair of NAC opponents scoreless.  In a 2-0 win over Husson on Sunday, Barker turned away 11 shots to preserve the victory after the Braves held a 13-4 advantage in shots in the opening half.  She leads the NAC in goals against average (GAA), posting a 0.40 mark through five contests.

Young Men's XC Team Making Strides

With perfect fall running conditions the men's cross country team continued to gain momentum. In an eight-team event on UMF's challanging home course, Farmington's harriers closed the gap on some local competitors.
St. Joseph's College scored 65 points followed by Presque Isle with 75 and Farmington with 81 to place 2-3-4, respectively. Just three weeks ago at UNE, the scoring was St. Josephs 42, Presque Isle 54 and Farmington 113. Bowdoin College won the meet with a score of 23.

Leading the pack was senior Drew Croteau (Durham, CT). Croteau finished second behind Bowdoin's Owen McKenna, running the eight kilometer (4.96
miles) race in 28:52. McKenna set a course record in 27:08. First-year
Peter DeLano (Rockport, ME) placed 12th with a personal-best time of 30:51. Scoring in 20th place was sophomore Chris Durkin (Brunswick, ME) in 31:49, while junior captain Phil Jackson (Westbrook, ME) was fourth on the team and 23rd overall, running a 32:36.

Rounding out the scoring was first-year Dan Peterson (Milford, MA) with a 33:38. Also running for the Beavers were sophomore Jon Ambrose (North Wareham, MA) and first-year Tristan Bates (New Sharon, ME), placing 42nd and 43rd respectively.


Next up for the Cross Country team is the first annual Alumni/open meet on Sat. October 7th at their home course at MT Blue HS. This is a 5K XC race open to the public. Race day registration is at 10:00 am and Race at 11:00

Women Take Ninth, Men Finish 13th at Pop Crowell Invite

Emily Farley clocked 20:20 to finish in 10th place among 234 runners at the Pop Crowell Cross Country Invitational, hosted by Gordon College.  Her strong showing allowed UMF to finish ninth in the team standings.  On the men’s side, Drew Croteau finished 11th with a time of 5:40 to lead the Beavers to a 13th-place team finish.

Kate Dickson also had a strong showing for UMF, finishing 21st with a time of 21:14, while Teri Slawek was the next UMF finisher, placing 48th with a time of 22:25.  Chris Durkin was the second-best performer on the men’s side, finishing in 65th place with a time of 31:23.  Complete Results

UMF Harriers Open Season With Strong Fourth-Place Showings at UNE Invitational

Emily Farley finished fourth and Kate Dickinson placed 11th to lead the UMF women’s cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the season-opening UNE Invitational in Biddeford on Saturday.  Farley posted a time of 21:48 over the 5000m course, just :40 off the winning pace, while Dickinson’s time (23:48) kept her in the top 20% of finishers.  UMF also received a solid effort from Michelle Dubocq, who finished in 17th place with a time of 24:49.

On the men’s side, Chris Durkin was the top UMF finisher, clocking 34:19 over the 8000m course to finish in 16th place.  Phil Jackson (34:45) and Ren Morse (35:02) took 18th and 20th, respectively, to fuel the fourth-place finish.
