Men's Cross Country Gaining Respect

North Dartmouth, MA: For the past five seasons the UMF Men’s Cross Country team has been gaining depth and speed while quietly climbing the ladder of respect. On a muddy course in torrential rain six of the seven varsity harriers set personal records (PRs) and the team placed 13th out of 29 scoring teams. Bates College won the meet followed by Brown University and MIT. The Beavers were led by Sr. Captain Nick Scott (Monmouth, ME) who placed 64th out of 233 runners. Scott ran the 8 kilometer (4.96 miles) course in 27:13 and was just 17 seconds off the UMF record (26:56) that he set last season. Moving up in the speed department and setting PRs were Jr. Drew Croteau (Durham, CT) and Sr. Andrew Sweeney (Wells, ME) who turned in the 3rd and 4th fastest individual performances in the 7 year history of Farmington’s Cross Country team. Croteau finished 81st with a time of 27:29 while Sweeney was 82nd two seconds behind. 2004 Men's Cross Country Season Preview

The men's cross country team looks to build upon last years' successful season. With four out of the top five Harriers returning and the addition of four strong athletes this team should make a run to repeat as North Atlantic Conference Champions. Also returning for the Beavers will be Junior Ben Fletcher (Auburn, ME), Juniors Joe Fitzsimmons (Lewiston, ME), and Drew Croteau (Durham, CT) who were selected to the 2003 All Conference team.
