Men's basketball toppled at Thomas
WATERVILLE -- The University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team dropped a 74-65 decision to Thomas College in North Atlantic Conference action this afternoon.
Josh Tanguay (Gorham, ME) registered a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds, but the Beavers dropped to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in the NAC with a game versus Husson University Tuesday in Bangor. The Terriers ran their record to 4-8 (1-2).
Pat Howell (Nobleboro, ME) and Eric Lelansky (Portland, ME) scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, for Farmington, but the shooting that helped the Beavers bounce back in the first half (14-27, 51.9 percent) to grab a 37-33 lead at halftime did not return after break (eight of 24, 33.3 percent).
Andrew Duncanson posted a game-high 29 points to lead the Terriers, 21 of which came in the second half. Isaiah Brathwaite, Mike Burchill and Darrell Alexander each pitched in 11 points.
The two teams battled over the opening 10 minutes of the contest before the Terriers used a 14-2 run to take a 31-18 advantage. Alexander scored eight points during the streak. The Beavers opened a barrage of 3-point makes with Lelansky hitting twice and Andrew Dean (Gorham, ME), Howell and Ted Neil (Strong, ME) each collecting one to reel off a 19-2 run to take a 37-33 edge at the break. Farmington did not allow Thomas a field goal over the final 4:34 of the frame.
The Beavers held the lead into the second half with a 46-39 advantage with 12:38 left in the contest, but the game's next 12 points to retake the control with 10 minutes remaining. Duncanson scored 10 of those points. Thomas built its lead to 11 points with 3:42 to play with Farmington using a 7-0 stretch to get back into the game with a Dean 3-pointer with 1:05 left cutting the lead to 66-62, but the Terriers went six of eight from the foul line in the waning moments to take the 74-65 win and the Beavers' fifth straight loss.
