Men's basketball bested at Plymouth

PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- The University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team fell 78-65 in its return from holiday break at Plymouth State University this evening.

The Beavers fell to 3-5 with a game against Bowdoin College at home on Saturday. The Panthers improved to 5-7.

Eric Taylor (Belgrade, ME) led Farmington with 16 points followed by Josh Tanguay (Gorham, ME) with 14 points and Pat Howell (Nobleboro, ME) with 11 points.

Jason O'Keefe scored 25 points to lead the Panthers with Ben Huntington and Bryan Tracy each pitching in 19 points. The Beavers outshot PSU 53.5 percent (23-43) to 49.1 (27-55), but the Panthers connected on 11 of 23 3-pointers. Tracy made 7-of-11 shots from the field, including 5-of-8 from three-point range, while O'Keefe drained 9-of-19 overall and 4-of-9 from beyond the arc. Huntington converted 6-of-9 from the floor and added a team-high seven assists

Plymouth State held the lead the entire second half, but UMF did not go home without a battle.  The Beavers got the deficit down to four points three times in the second half, the last one coming with seven minutes remaining, 61-57, but PSU responded with nine straight points to get the margin back up to 13 points with 2:30 remaining, sealing the victory.
