Men's basketball falls to Husson at buzzer
WATERVILLE -- The University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team was eliminated from the North Atlantic Conference semifinals on a Nick Perras tip-in that lifted No. 2 Husson University past the third-seeded Beavers 67-65 at Thomas College tonight.
The Eagles (15-11) advance to the title game to take on the host Terriers at Thomas Saturday at 2 p.m.
Eric Taylor (Oakland, ME) led Farmington with 22 points and 11 rebounds as the Beavers finished their season at 13-12. Eric Lelansky (Portland, ME) supplied 15 points in the loss, while Josh Tanguay (Gorham, ME) collected 12 points and 11 boards.
The game was contested closely throughout with the largest lead being the Beavers’ eight point advantage they gained after jumping out to a 10-2 early lead. The Eagles answered quickly, however and then teams continued to battle back and forth throughout the night. The game featured nine ties and nine lead changes.
Husson’s scoring attack was very balanced, with two players scoring double figures and three finishing the game with nine points. Matt Mackenzie (Warren, ME) led the way with his 19, while Perras was able to toss in 15 points in the victory. Blaine Meehan (Winterport, ME), Brock Bradford (Kenduskeag, ME), and Scott Kissinger (Islip Terrace, NY) each contributed nine points on the night.
