St. John reaches milestone in men's basketball win

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – University of Maine at Farmington's Matt St. John (Wayne, ME) passed 1,000 points for his collegiate career and scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Beavers over the Lynx 82-75 on Friday evening.

Farmington improved to 9-11 (5-4 in the NAC), while Lesley dropped to 5-14 (3-4)

With his second three-pointer of the game early in the first half, St. John joined teammate Sean Fry (Jay, ME) as the second Beaver this season to reach the milestone.  His 29 points came on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor including 9-of-13 from beyond the arc. Ted Neil (Strong, ME) popped in 14 points off the bench in the win, while Fry added 11 points.

For the Lynx, Joe Chatman (Boston, MA) had a team-high 22 points, 11 of those points coming in the game’s final six minutes to give Lesley a shot at winning.  James Parker (Sandwich, MA) shot well from the field hitting 5-of-7 three pointers, finishing with 18 points. Mark Stevens (Las Vegas, NV) and Jon Cruz (Haverhill, MA) scored double-digit points as well, as they finished with 14 and 12 points, respectively. 

The Beavers were deadly from beyond the arc, hitting 51.7 percent of their attempts. Their accuracy from the field helped keep any Lesley come back at bay. 

With Farmington up 14 points with just 2:24 to go in the game, the Lynx attempted to get themselves back in the game as Chatman hit three deep balls and Parker nailed key free throws to get the Lynx within two points with 0:39 remaining in the game. 

Timely steals and clutch free-throw shooting from the Beavers silenced Lesley’s come back and they escaped the game with a victory.

Farmington is scheduled to travel to Wheelock College for their game on Saturday at 4 p.m.
