Men's basketball downs Johnson State

JOHNSON, Vt. -- University of Maine at Farmington's Ted Neil (Strong, ME) connected on both ends of a one-and-one with seven seconds remaining to seal the Beavers' 77-73 North Atlantic Conference road victory in men's basketball this evening in Carter Gymnasium.

The Beavers (7-7, 3-1 NAC) raced to an 11-2 lead to open the game behind a trio of three-pointers and finished 6 of 7 in the half as they led 37-34 at the break.

Following a Johnson State (4-10, 0-3 NAC) score the Badgers' full court pressure caused a Farmington player to lose the ball off his leg giving the home team one last chance with 17 seconds remaining.  A 3-point attempt from the right wing rimmed out and Neil collected the rebound, got fouled and stepped to the line to seal the game.

Sean Fry (Jay, ME) scored 18 points to pace Farmington, while Neil chipped in with 11 points and Isaac Hutchinson (Oakland, ME) tossed in 10 points.

Bobby Shedd (Johnson, VT) led the Johnson State offensive charge scoring 22 points and grabbing a game-high nine rebounds. Charlie Viana (Valley Stream, NY) added 15 points while John Foley (Valley Stream, N.Y./Holy Cross) scored 14 points and hauled down seven boards. Chris Lamica (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) had an outstanding game at the point for JSC, handing out eight assists and hounding the Farmington point guards throughout the evening on defense.

Farmington travels south to play at Castleton State, also at 2 p.m. Johnson State will play at home again tomorrow in another NAC contest against Thomas College at 2 p.m.
