Men's hoops rolls by Fisher
FARMINGTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team cruised to an 89-62 victory over Fisher College in the first round of the Colby Invitational on Saturday at Dearborn Gym.
Farmington ran its record to 4-1 with the win and is scheduled to meet Colby College ( a 113-109 overtime winner over defending North Atlantic Conference champ Elms) in the championship game on Sunday at 2 p.m. Fisher (1-7) is slated to face Elms (4-1) at noon in the consolation game. The tournament is being played at the University of Maine at Farmington due to court renovations at Colby.
Sean Fry (Jay, ME) paced four Beavers in double-figures with 18 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Matt St. John (Wayne, ME) followed with 17 points, including five 3-pointers, Eric Lelansky (Portland, ME) added 13 points ( 5 for 5 shooting with three treys) and Isaac Hutchinson (Oakland, ME) chipped in 10 points.
Farmington held a 49-32 command of the contest at intermission behind a 16-for-28 effort from the field in the first half. Of the Beavers' 30 made field goals, 24 had an assist with Tom Labrie (Lewiston, ME) leading the way with six assists followed by Andrew Dean (Gorham, ME) with five assists and Josh Tanguay (Gorham, ME) doling out four.
Louis Williams kept Fisher in the contest by scoring 24 of his game-high 31 points in the opening half.
