Dean receives MMBCWA weekly rookie accolades

FARMINGTON -- Freshman guard Andrew Dean (Gorham, ME) was named the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association Rookie of the Week on Tuesday.

In his first three starts, Dean helped the Beavers to a 2-1 week.

Dean led the Beavers with 20 points, including a 4-for-4 performance from beyond the arc in an 83-77 loss to Colby on Sunday. Dean nailed a 3-pointer with 5:47 left in the second half to tie the game at 70, but Colby rallied with Adam Choice and Mac Simpson each scoring four points down the stretch to seal the victory.

Dean also scored nine points and dished out five assists in Farmington's 89-62 victory over Fisher on Saturday.

Colby (5-0) heads the MMBCWA weekly coaches poll. The Mules received 10 first-place votes and 54 points and are followed by Bowdoin (37 points), Bates (21), Husson (one first-place vote, 20) and Farmington (20).

The Beavers are scheduled to visit the University of New England on Saturday.
