Fry scores 1,000th point in win

CASTLETON, Vt. -- University of Maine at Farmington senior Sean Fry (Jay, ME) scored 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Beavers to an 88-84 win over Castleton State College in North Atlantic Conference men's basketball action today.

Fry, who needed 19 points to reach the 1,000 career-point plateau, knocked a foul-line jumper with just over 12 minutes to go to achieve the milestone as Farmington ran its record to 8-7 overall and 4-1 in the NAC.

Castleton trailed 52-48 at halftime, and had no answer for Farmington's Matt St. John (Wayne, ME) over the first 20 minutes of play. St. John scored all 26 of his points in the first-half, canning 8 of 9 from beyond the three-point arc.

Andrew Dean (Gorham, ME) and Isaac Hutchinson (Oakland, ME) joined Fry and St. John in double-figures for the Beavers with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Joey Farley scored a team-high 21 points off the bench for the Spartans, while Richard Reilly added 15 points and five assists as Castleton fell to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Kevin Cayea and Alden Gregory rounded out the Spartans in double-figures with 15 and 11 points, respectively.

Farmington will take on Husson in a mid-week NAC tilt Tuesday at Dearborn Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m.
