Field hockey falls to UNE

Sarah Brown

FARMINGTON --The University of New England topped the University of Maine at Farmington 2-0 in non-conference field hockey action today at Prescott Field.

The Beavers (5-5) are scheduled to visit Bowdoin College Thursday at 6 p.m. The Nor'easters (8-2) are slated to host Nichols College in Commonwealth Coast Conference competition Saturday at 1 p.m.

Anne Cowles (Franconia, NH) and Brianna Tupper (Winthrop, ME) each scored a goal for UNE, which was outshot 15-10 in contest.

Cowles opened the scoring at 28:12 when she knocked in a Taryn Flagg (Livermore Falls, ME) pass for a 1-0 Nor'easter advantage. Tupper nearly increased the visitors the lead to prior to halftime when she reached a loose ball in front of the goal alone, but her bid went over the goal.

The two teams crawled out of intermission before Tupper drove in a cross by Michelle Oswald (Jay, ME) at 45:52 to push the UNE lead to 2-0

Despite carrying play over the final 10 minutes of the contest with six shots and four corners, Farmington was unable to work its way onto the scoreboard the Nor'easters came away with the 2-0 victory.

Sarah Brown (Windham, ME) recorded six saves in the loss.

Ayla Nelson (Auburn, MA) registered 10 saves for the Nor'easters.
