Field hockey nipped by St. Joseph's

Alyssa St. Pierre

STANDISH -- The University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team was dealt its first North Atlantic Conference defeat as the Beavers fell 2-1 to St. Joseph's College today.

The Beavers (4-4 overall, 2-1 in the NAC) are scheduled to host NAC foe Husson University in a non-conference contest Wednesday at Prescott Field. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.

Jillian Kimball broke a 1-1 stalemate at 40:30 with a blast from the top of the circle to give St. Joseph's the 2-1 victory.

Alyssa St. Pierre (Jay, ME) got the Beavers out to a 1-0 lead 7:41 into the game when she deposited an Ashley Wentworth (North Berwick, ME) pass, but Julia Ostrowski evened the game for the Monks at 24:35 for a 1-1 tie at halftime.

Kimball's score held up as the game-winner as the Beavers did not fire a shot on goal in the second half. St. Joseph's held an 8-7 edge in shots, while both teams took three corners.

Felisha Taylor (Chelsea, ME) stopped three shots for Farmington.

Meaghan Johnson made three saves for the Monks.
