Field hockey gets by Gordon

FARMINGTON -- Alyssa St. Pierre (Jay, ME) scored two goals and assisted on another as the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team downed Gordon College 4-1 in non-conference action today at Prescott Field..

The Beavers (1-1) are scheduled to visit the University of Southern Maine at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The Fighting Scots dropped to 0-5 and are slated to host New England College Friday.

St. Pierre opened the scoring for the Beavers 7:09 into the contest with an unassisted marker and knocked in a Hattie Agnew (Guilford, ME) feed with one second left to cap the victory.

The Beavers held a 2-0 lead at the break. St. Pierre set up a goal by Sara Lane (Hiram, ME) just after intermission to give the Beavers a 3-0 command.. Ashley Wentworth (North Berwick, ME) scored the other Beaver goal after finishing off a long run with a blast into the back of the cage.

Kristin Lewis (Barre, VT) scored off an assist by Wendy Redcay (Mount Joy, PA) for Gordon, which was outshot 14-8, but held a 13-11 edge in penalty-corner attempts.

Felisha Taylor (Chelsea, ME) collected a victory in her first collegiate start. The freshman stopped five shots.

Alicia L'Heureux (Dudley, MA) made eight saves for the Fighting Scots.
