FARMINGTON -- For the second time in three seasons, the University of Maine at Farmington will host Husson University for the North Atlantic Conference Field Hockey Championship.
The third-seeded Beavers (10-7) are scheduled to host the No. 4 Eagles (8-7) Saturday at 1 p.m. at Prescott Field for the NAC crown. The winner will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. In 2007, Farmington -- winners of four NAC titles since 2003 -- defeated Husson 3-1.
Farmington reached the title game with a 2-0 semifinal victory at No. 2 Castleton State College on Wednesday, while Husson needed penalty strokes to knock off top-seeded St. Joseph's College 2-1 in Standish on Wednesday.
This is third meeting this season for Farmington and Husson. The Beavers have defeated the Eagles in both prior meetings.
In non-conference action in Farmington on Oct. 9, Alyssa St. Pierre (Jay, ME) scored 3:14 into overtime to lift the Beavers to a 2-1 victory.
St. Pierre punched in a pass by Hattie Agnew (Guilford, ME) for the game-winner. The duo also combined for the game-tying score at 51:57 as St. Pierre deflected a long bid by Agnew to make it 1-1.
Emily Woodbury (Burnham, ME) gave Husson a 1-0 lead at 13:29. Woodbury worked her way through the Beaver defense to knock the ball in. Woodbury's score highlighted a Husson-controlled half (7-2 shots). Farmington picked up its play in the second half (8-3 shots, seven penalty corners) culminating in St. Pierre's tying marker.
Farmington goalkeeper Sarah Brown (Windham, ME) recorded six saves, while Husson's Kristen Capen (Leeds, ME) registered five saves for the Eagles.
In NAC competition in Bangor on Oct. 17, Emma Deans (Gorham, ME) tallied the game-winner with 9:35 remaining in regulation to push Farmington to a 2-1 win.
Like the first contest, Woodbury and St. Pierre each scored a goal in regulation. The Eagles scored their only goal with 11:21 on the clock in the first half. Woodbury notched the goal and was assisted by Jillian Morin (Manchester, ME). The Eagles led 1-0 at halftime before St. Pierre scored off an Ashley Wentworth (North Berwick, ME) feed to even the score at 1-1.
Brown had five saves while Capen notched three saves.
