Field hockey toppled at Bates

LEWISTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team was dealt a 4-1 non-conference loss by Bates College today.

Farmington (2-3) is scheduled to play host to North Atlantic Conference foe Lasell on Saturday and Simmons on Sunday.

Jenna Dannis assisted on three goals for Bates (1-4).

Farmington scored with less than two minutes remaining to spoil the shutout for Bates goalie Katie McEnroe. Alyssa St. Pierre (Jay, ME) dribbled in on a mini-breakaway and slapped a hard shot that rose over McEnroe's stick for her team-leading third goal of the season.

The Bobcats got on the board in the 22nd minute, when Morgan Maciewicz received an upfield pass into the circle from Dannis and one-timed the ball past Beavers starting goalie Felisha Taylor (Chelsea, ME). Bates made it 2-0 less than two minutes later when Lindsay Thompson knocked in a rebound off a Taylor save.

Dannis set up Laura Baran three minutes into the second half, then added her third assist in the 62nd minute, unleashing a hard shot from the right perimeter that Mary Lewis deftly redirected past Farmington goalie Sarah Brown (Windham, ME).

Taylor started in goal and finished with five saves, and was relieved at halftime by Brown, who had seven saves.

McEnroe made four saves in the winning effort.
