Chambers lifts field hockey to win
GORHAM -- Forward Kristin Chambers (Gorham, Maine)
converted a penalty shot in the 22nd minute to lead the University of Maine
Farmington Beavers to a 1-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies
Thursday afternoon at Paula D. Hodgdon Field on the Gorham campus.
The win is the third straight for the Beavers, who improved to 3-1 overall. The
loss dropped the Huskies to 4-2 overall.
Chambers drove in the only goal her team needed after her team was awarded a
penalty shot late in the second half. Chambers calmly slotted the ball to the
left side of the cage for the game-winner. The goal was Chambers third of the
season.
Southern Maine sophomore goalkeeper Allie Hill (Cape Elizabeth, Maine)
helped keep the Huskies in the game, making several spectacular saves, including
stopping UMF’s second penalty stroke of the first half from Chambers. Hill
finished the game with 11 saves.
UMaine Farmington goalkeeper Kaeleigh Barker (Chicester, N.H.) played
well in goal recording a pair of saves and making numerous defensive clears.
UMaine Farmington travels to North Atlantic Conference opponent Husson College
for a 7 p.m. game on Tuesday (Sept. 25). Southern Maine returns to action on the
road Saturday (Sept. 22) when it travels to Eastern Connecticut State University
for a 1 p.m. Little East Conference game.
