Field hockey falls at Husson

BANGOR -- Elisha Dorso (Farmingdale, ME) scored two goals as Husson College field hockey defeated the University of Maine at Farmington 2-1.

The Beavers dropped to 1-1 in the NAC and 3-2 overall. The Eagles won their fifth straight pushing their record to 6-2 and remain unbeaten in NAC play at 4-0. UMF had won its previous 12 NAC contests dating back to the start of the 2006 season.

Dorso scored her first goal 12:11 into the game. Krystal Doughty (Lisbon Falls, ME) fired a shot on goal from the circle and Dorso cleaned it up, putting the Eagles up 1-0.

UMF goalie Kaeleigh Barker (Chicester, NH) kept the Beavers within a goal with a great save with 24:40 to go in the game. Erica Dorso (Farmingdale, ME) and Sarah Hessert (Hampden, ME) went in on a 2-on-1 break. Dorso got free down the right side and found Hessert on the left side, but Barker came over and made a the kick save to keep it at 1-0.

Elisha Dorso made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal 8:52 remaining in the game. The Eagles had 14 corners to just seven corners for the Beavers. Husson capitalized on one when Dorso dribbled in and shot it past Barker.

The Beavers cut the lead to 2-1 with a goal by Amanda Fortin (Jefferson, ME). Fortin tipped in a blast from Bethany Marshall (York, ME) just inside the circle.

Barker finished with seven saves against 10 shots.

Kelly Bocchino (Vassalboro, ME) had four saves on five shots for Husson.

UMF is scheduled to visit Becker on Saturday at 1 p.m.
