10/31/01Six Field Hockey Players Earn All-Conference Accolades, Deans Named MAC Rookie of the YearThe UMaine-Farmington Field Hockey team was recognized for it's impressive season on Tuesday, as six players were named to the MAC All-Conference Team. Getting All-MAC nods for the Beavers were Senior Forward Katie Bernier, Sophomore Forward Dorice Reitchel, Junior Midfielder Sarah Dailey, Junior Goalkeeper Fawn Albert, Junior Midfielder Lori Welch. Freshman Back Jessica Deans, a graduate of Gorham High School (Gorham, ME), was named Maine Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year for 2001. . 10/28/01Field Hockey Suffers Defeat in MAC ChampionshipUMF burst into a 2-0 lead in the first half of the MAC championship only to see Husson score 3 second half goals, the game winner coming with just seconds left in the game. Goal scorers for the Beavers were Dorice Reitchel and Erica Gundersen. UMF finishes the season 9-5 overall and 7-1 in the conference. With only the loss of two graduating seniors in Katie Bernier and Meghan DeCourcey, the Beavers are looking forward to another successful season next year. 10/25/01Field Hockey Advances to MAC Championship, Defeats Thomas 5-1UMF senior forward Katie Bernier netted 3 goals and sophomore Dorice Reitchel added two as the Beavers breezed past visiting Thomas College in the MAC semi-final game today. UMF goalkeeper Fawn Albert made 3 saves on 7 shots. UMF will host the winner of the Husson/St. Joseph's game on Sunday October 28th at 1pm. 10/23/01Field Hockey to Host MAC Semi-Final and Final GamesUMF Field Hockey will again host a semi-final game and the championship of the Maine Athletic Conference tournament this year. Entering the tournament ranked number one, the Beavers look to make it three MAC Championships in a row. UMF will take on Thomas College this Thursday at 3pm. With a victory, they will face the winner of the St. Joseph's College/Husson College game on Sunday at 1pm. 10/21/01Field Hockey Ends Regular Season With Win, Defeats Fitchburg State 4-2Dorice Reitchel recorded a hat trick as UMF closed out the regular season with it's 8th win of the season. Megan DeCourcey scored UMF's first goals of the day mid way through the first half of play. Goalkeeper Fawn Albert made 6 saves on 9 Fitchburg shots. UMF will now gear up for the MAC tournament which begins here at UMF on this Thursday at 3pm. 10/16/01Field Hockey Defeats Thomas, Finishes MAC Play UndefeatedFreshman Becky Christiansen and sophomore Amanda Nimon tallied 2 goals each for the Beavers as they cruised to a 6-1 victory over the visiting Thomas Terriers. Other goal scorers for UMF were Sarah Dailey and Dorice Reitchel. UMF goal keepers Fawn Albert and Ashleigh Biette combined for 3 saves on 5 shots on goal. UMF heads into the MAC playoffs undefeated and will host the first round on Thursday October 25th at 3pm. UMF will travel to Fitchburg State this Sunday to close out their stellar season. 10/13/01Field Hockey Remains Undefeated in MACWith only one conference game remaining in the season, the UMF Field Hockey team is poised to enter the MAC tournament as the undefeated number one seed. With another dominating performance today the Beavers were able to topple the visiting Husson Braves 2-0. UMF will face Thomas College in the final regular season MAC game on Tuesday October 16th in Farmington. The MAC playoffs begin Thursday October 25th with UMF most likely hosting the semifinal and final games. 10/11/01Field Hockey Loses to Bowdoin 2-0Fawn Albert had another strong showing making 17 saves for the Beavers, however she was unable to keep Bowdoin's Jackie Templeton from finding the net twice yesterday. UMF's record drops to 5-4 overall. The Beavers remain undefeated in the MAC and hope to improve their record to 5-0 Saturday October 13th when they take on MAC rival Husson College in Farmington. 10/3/01Field Hockey Falls to BatesSenior Katie Bernier answered 70 seconds after Bates scored their first goal to keep the Beavers tied with the Bobcats at the half. However, four more Bates players were able to solve UMF's historically strong defense to extend the score to 5-1. UMF goal keeper Fawn Albert made an impressive 24 saves. The Beavers drop to 5-3 overall and remain undefeated in the MAC at 4-0. UMF will face Bowdoin College in Bowdoin on Wednesday, October 10th. 10/1/01Field Hockey Defeats St. Joseph's (ME) 1-0, now 4-0 in MAC competitionSophomore Dorice Reitchel scored the lone goal for the Beavers Sunday in Standish, as UMF Field Hockey rolled past St. Joseph's for their fourth consecutive win. Reitchel scored with 24:19 left to go in the first half, off of an assist from Sophomore Angie White. Defensively, Junior goal keeper Fawn Albert had seven saves on the day and recorded her fourth shutout of the season. On Wednesday, October 3 the team will travel to the twin cities to take on Bates at 4:00. 9/27/01Field Hockey Rolls Past Thomas to Remain Undefeated in MACThe Beavers were led by Jenny Dill's two first half goals in their 4-1 victory over the Thomas Terriers. Other goals scorers where Katie Bernier and Dorice Reitchel. Defensively, UMF's goal keeper, Fawn Albert had another strong showing saving five of seven shots. Rounding out the defensive effort, Jessica Deans and Lori Welch each recorded defensive saves. The Beavers will face St. Joseph's in Standish on Sunday, September 30th. 9/24/2001Field Hockey Notches Another Overtime VictoryThe Beavers recorded their second overtime win in a week yesterday defeating the Husson Braves 2-1. Katie Bernier scored for UMF with 5:20 left in regulation to force the overtime period. Erica Gunderson found the net with just under 9 minutes left in the first overtime to give the Beavers to victory. UMF goal keeper Fawn Albert recorded 4 saves on 6 shots. The Beaver's record improves to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the MAC. UMF travels to Thomas College on Wednesday, September 26th. 9/21/2001Field Hockey Gets By USM in Penalty StrokesBehind the stellar play of junior, goalie Fawn Albert (12 saves on 18 shots) the Beavers defeated USM 1-0 in penalty strokes for the third straight year. Scoring strokes for UMF were sophomore, Angie White (2) and senior, Katie Bernier. The Beavers travel to Bangor to face Husson on Sunday, September 23rd. 9/18/2001Field Hockey Drops One to ColbyKatie Bernier scored the lone goal for the Beavers as they were defeated by Colby College, 4-1 today in Waterville. Goalie Fawn Albert recorded 22 saves. The Beavers travel to the University of Southern Maine on Thursday the 20th. 9/13/2001Field Hockey records first win, defeating St. Joseph's in 4-0 shutoutDorice Reitchel, Nichole Murphy, Katie Bernier and Nikki Levesque each netted goals leading UMF to it's first Maine Athletic Conference victory of the season. Junior GK Fawn Albert stopped 2 shots to record her first shutout. The Beavers, 1-1, next face Colby College in Waterville on Tuesday, September 18. |
