FARMINGTON  -- The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team was picked fifth in the North Atlantic Conference in a preseason poll conducted by conference's coaches and announced by the conference today.

The Beavers went 5-22 last season and 3-7 in the NAC. Farmington finished fifth out of six teams.

Defending champion Castleton State College has been chosen as the baseball preseason favorite of the NAC in a vote conducted by the league’s coaches. The Spartans, who finished 9-1 in conference play last season but had to battle through the losers bracket to earn their first conference title, received four first place votes and a total of 24 points. Husson University collected one first-place vote and finished second with 21 points followed by Thomas College (14), Lyndon State College (10) and Farmington (6).

The Beavers are scheduled to open the season on March 27 with a doubleheader at Fisher College.
