Baseball drops pair to Fisher
FARMINGTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team fell to Fisher Colllege 3-0, 5-3 in non-conference action today at Hippach Field.
The Beavers slipped to 4-10 and are scheduled to host Thomas College in a North Atlantic Conference twinbill on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
In the opener, Zach Thompson (Salem, MA) twirled a four-hit shutout as the Falcons blanked the Beavers 3-0. Thompson walked four and hit two batters, while striking out six.
Brandon Gallagher (North Yarmouth, ME) was hit with the complete-game loss. The freshman scattered eight hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
Eddy Delcarmen (Boston, MA) and Thomas Englehardt (Bradford, MA) acted as catalysts for the Falcons with two singles apiece. Delcarmen plated a pair of runs in the opening frame and Englehardt drove in a run in the third inning.
Josh Garneau (South Portland, ME), Tyler Hanson (Sanford, ME) and Steve Hutchinson (Beverly, MA) each had a single for Farmington.
In the second game, Reynaldo Nunez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) clubbed an RBI single and a two-run home run as the Falcons completed the sweep with a 5-3 victory.
Pat Howell (Nobleboro, ME), Brian Jenkins (Gorham, ME) and Brian Morrison (Saco, ME) each collected two singles in the loss. The Beavers held a 1-0 edge before Fisher struck for two runs in the fourth and the fifth innings to take command.
Jarrod Erdmann (Topsham, ME) went five innings for Farmington in the loss with three walks and three strikeouts. Will Griffiths (Mechanic Falls, ME) and Ryan DiPompo (Jay, ME) each tossed an inning of relief.
Following Nunez, JJ Navas (Beverly, MA) singled twice and tripled for the Falcons with Richie Welch (Everett, MA) smacking a two-run single.
Kevin Ryan (Cheshire, CT) went five innings in recording the win with a walk and two strikeouts.
