Baseball suffers twinbill blanking
FARMINGTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team was shut out 10-0 and 4-0 in a doubleheader against Fisher College today at Hippach Field.
The Beavers slipped 5-14 on the season. Farmington is scheduled to visit Colby College for a single game on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
Falcon pitching stymied the Beavers all afternoon with the hosts collecting only five hits.
In the opener, Evan Tardugno tossed a complete game three-hitter for Fisher. Tardugno struck out eight and did not walk a batter.
The Falcons pounded out 15 hits in the game with Tom Englehardt smacking two singles, a double and driving in three runs, Eddy Delcarmen rapping three singles and plating two runs and Jose Diaz doubling twice.
Pat Howell (Nobleboro, ME) took the loss for the Beavers. Howell allowed 12 hits with a walk and two strikeouts over five innings of work.
Phineas Peake (Penobscot, ME), Corey Provencher (Rumford, ME) and Tyler Hanson (Sanford, ME) each singled in the loss.
In game two, four Fisher pitchers combined on a two-hitter in the victory. Kevin Michael earned the win after 4.1 innings of work. Kevin Ryan earned the save.
The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when Josh Valerio scored on a well-executed double steal to make it 1-0 in favor of Fisher. The Falcons padded their lead with two runs in the sixth and one run in the seventh to take the win.
Englehardt and Jose Reyes each plated a run with a base hit for the visitors.
Kyle Feltis (Bristol, ME) took a tough loss for the Beavers in the second game with 5.2 innings of four-hit ball.
Provencher and Mike Cummons (Lincolnville, ME) each recorded a single for Farmington.
