Ends Season on High Note, Takes Two From Bates
In game one, James Writer's RBI double in the third inning
scored the only run of the game, enough for UMF to defeat visiting Bates
College 1-0. Pitcher Zach Reed scattered 6 Bates hits in the seven
inning game to earn his 5th win of the season. Game two also went
UMF's way as the Beavers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning off
of 2, 2 run homers by James Writer and Tom Ventura. UMF added runs
in the third and fourth innings to seal the 7-2 victory. Senior
captain Pat Conway pitched his last game as a Beaver, giving up 2 earned
runs and striking out 7 in the complete game.

Baseball Gets
Three Wins at UMaine Presque Isle
The UMF baseball team closed out the regular season with a
strong performance in Presque Isle this weekend, taking 3 of 4 from the
Owls. The Beavers exploded for 30 runs in the first two games, out
scoring UMPI 14-0 and 16-4. Repeat hitters on Saturday were James
Writer, Tom Ventura and Keith LeBlanc. Pat Conway and Zach Reed earned
the wins. UMPI rebounded on Sunday to take the first game 5-1.
Tom Ventura and Justin Quimby each went 2-3 in the game. John
Rutkiewitcz was credited with the loss. In the second game, the
Beavers got hits from Keith LeBlanc, Zach Reed and Dave Sharland to secure
the victory. Freshman pitcher Ray Doubleday improved to 4-1 with the
6-0 win.

Baseball Suffers Loss to Thomas
The UMF baseball team suffered another loss yesterday as
they were defeated by Thomas College 5-2 in a make up game in
Waterville. Keith LeBlanc led the Beavers with two hits, while Kris
Garrow added a 2 RBI double to score UMF's only runs. Pitcher Jeff
Casavant held Thomas to 7 hits while striking out 6. UMF will close
out the season this weekend with a 4 game series with UMPI in Presque
Isle.

Suffers Loss to Colby
Kris Garrow continued to produce at the plate for the
Beavers going 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI in UMF's 14-2 loss to Colby
College. Keith Leblanc also added 2 hits for UMF, while Justin Quimby
and Ben Blood added one each. Ray Doubleday was credited with the loss
for the Beavers. UMF returns to action tomorrow when they travel to
Waterville to play a rescheduled single game. The Beavers will close
out the season this weekend with a road trip to Presque Isle for a 4 game
series with UMPI.

Baseball Losses to Thomas, 6-1
UMF's bats continued to be quite yesterday as they
generated 4 hits, 2 from Kris Garrow, one from Justin Quimby and an RBI
double from James Writer, in the 6-1 loss. UMF gave up all of
Thomas' runs in the second inning. Zach Reed was credited with the
loss for the Beavers. UMF returns to action today as they take on
Colby College here in Farmington at 3:30pm.

Baseball Drops Series to St. Joes
The UMF baseball team dropped a four game series to St.
Joseph's College this weekend. In the first game on Saturday
in Standish, the Beavers generated one run off of 2 hits. In the
second game St. Joe's held UMF scoreless. Jeff Casavant and Dan Fay
were credited with the losses. On Sunday, UMF held a three run
advantage entering the top of the 7th inning of the first game, until St.
Joe's hit a grand slam to steal the victory. In the second game, St.
Joe's came out strong scoring 4 runs in the 3rd and 5th innings and 3 in
the 4th while keeping UMF off of the board. Pat Conway and John
Rutkiewicz were credited with the losses. UMF's record drops to 7-13
overall. Next up for the Beavers will be Thomas College in
Waterville for a single game on Tuesday at 4pm.

Baseball Takes Two From Fisher, 6-5, 4-0
In the first game, UMF's 2 run lead was erased when Fisher
College took a one run advantage in the top of the 7th inning. In
the bottom of the inning, Tom Ventura hit a 2 run double to score the
winning run. Ray Doubleday earned the win and improves to 3-0 on the
season. In the second game, UMF scored the only run they needed in
the third inning on a James Writer RBI single. Writer also singled
in another run in the 5th. Zach Reed went all the way for his 3rd
win of the season. UMF improves to 7-9 overall and will return to
action on Saturday with they travel to St. Joseph's College to kick off a
4 game series that concludes at UMF on Sunday.

Baseball Drops Two To Lyndon State
UMF's James Writer and Keith Leblanc continued their
offensive production, however, the Beavers were unable to hold off a very
strong Lyndon State. Lyndon State sprayed 13 hits in the first
game and 7 in the second to earn the 14-4 and 5-4 wins. UMF
connected on 8 hits on the day. The Beavers drop to 5-9 overall and
will travel to Thomas College today for a doubleheader at 12pm.

Takes Two From Lyndon State
The UMF baseball team picked up two wins yesterday as they
generated 18 runs to earn 6-5 and 12-10 wins. In the first game John
Rutkiewicz broke a 9-9 tie with a three run homer to score the winning
run. Ray Doubleday earned the win for the Beavers. In the
second game Kris Garrow belted an RBI single in the bottom of the 7th to
drive in Zach Reed for the winning run. Reed pitched a complete game
giving up 11 hits while helping himself out at the plate with a 2 run
homer in the 5th inning. UMF improves to 5-7 on the year.
After a day off today, the Beavers will play 5 doubleheaders in 6 days,
beginning with Lyndon State in Vermont on Tuesday.

Baseball Drops Two to Thomas
In the first game of the doubleheader, UMF struggled at
the plate, only generating 4 hits in the 2-17 loss. Keith LeBlanc
had a double while Pat Conway, Bryant Williams and Cooper Willard each
added singles. John Rutkiewicz was credited with the loss. In
the second game UMF was able to put together 12 hits including 4 doubles,
one each by Keith LeBlanc, Kris Garrow, John Rutkiewicz and Justin Quimby.
James Writer added a home run. Going into the 7th inning the Beavers
were up 8-5, however Thomas drove in 7 runs in the inning to steal the
victory. UMF's record drops to 3-7 overall and 1-5 in the MAC.
The Beavers return to action on Saturday the 13th when they travel to
Lyndon State. The two teams will face off again on Sunday here in
Farmington.

Baseball Splits with Husson
on Sunday
After dropping 2 games to the Braves on Saturday, UMF
rebounded to capture a 5-4 win on Sunday. UMF lost the first game of the
doubleheader 5-1. Zach Reed went 4-6 on the weekend including 2
RBI's while pitching a complete game for the 5-4 win. Other hitters
for UMF were James Writer (2), Keith LeBlanc (2), Cooper Willard (2), Tom
Ventura (2), Dave Sharland (1) and Pat Conway (1). Jeff Casavant,
Daniel Fay and Ray Doubleday combined for the loss in the first game.

Baseball Drops Two to Husson
UMF had a tough time overcoming timely errors as it
dropped its first two conference games of the season to Husson College,
14-2 & 5-2. Pat Conway was credited with the loss in the first
game and John Rutkiewicz got the loss in the second. UMF faces
Husson again tomorrow in Bangor for another double header scheduled to
start at 12:00pm.

Baseball Loses to Bowdoin,
2-1
Senior Jason Cushman went 2-3 in a tough
loss for the Beavers. A defensive battle was broken in the 7th
inning when Bowdoin scored the first run of the game stringing together 3
hits in the inning and added another run in the 8th. UMF started a comeback
in the top of the 9th when Keith LeBlanc scored Tom Ventura, however that
was all the Beavers could produce. The loss evens UMF's record to
2-2. The Beavers will open conference play this Saturday versus
Husson College, at UMF weather permitting. Check here for updates on

Baseball Loses to Bates
UMF faced a solid Bate team today as they
dropped first game of the season 9-1 in Lewiston. James Writer led
the Beavers offensively with a single and a double. Pat Conway was
credited with the loss hurling 5 innings which included 4 strike
outs. John Rutkiewicz made a relief appearance going 3 innings
allowing 3 hits and striking out three. The Beavers' home opener
will be this Saturday at 12pm vs. Husson College, weather and field
conditions permitting.

Baseball takes Two at Fisher College
In the first game of the double header senior Pat Conway
pitched 7 innings striking out 8 and gave up only one earned run to help
UMF to its first win 8-2. Sophomore Zach Reed lead the offense with
a triple and a home run. In the second game, UMF received well
balanced offensive production as 5 players recorded 2 hits each in the
12-9 win. Ray Doubleday earned the win for the Beavers as he pitched
3 innings in relief, giving up 2 runs. UMF opens the season at 2-0
overall and will return to action on Wednesday March 27th when they travel
to Bowdoin College.
