2001 Season Review

Mother Nature wreaked havoc with the baseball season as the Beavers opened April 1 against Bowdoin in Boston and then did not play again until April 16. The road warriors went twenty-six games in seventeen days, including seven straight double-headers. Although the team finished with a 12-6 season, the pitching staff gave the team the opportunity to win every game.

Individual Accomplishments

*Mike Fullerton ’01 led the team in batting average (.420), hits (37), doubles (8), triples (3), home runs (6) and rbi (22), named All-Conference First Baseman

*Jeff Bird ’01 hit over .300 for the fourth consecutive year

*Nick Potts ’01 hit .338 and over .300 for his career; All-Conference Outfielder

*Jason Cushman ’01 had an excellent year behind the plate

*Freshman John Rutkiewicz led the pitching staff with three wins and a 3.70 ERA

*Pat Conway ’02 led the staff with 35 strikeouts

*Willie Walton ’01 picked up his first college win

*Zach Reed ’04 picked up three wins along with two saves
